About Sam Avery
Sam Avery is an award winning international filmmaker based in the Upstate New York region with an MFA in Media Arts Production, concentrating on digital video production, nonfiction filmmaking, and post-production theory. Currently, Sam is an Associate Professor at The State University of New York Collage at Cortland; teaching digital video production and core media/communication courses, as well as the Executive Director and founder of the Blackbird Film Festival.Before that, Sam worked as Program Director of Digital Media Academy at Harvard University and Event Supervisor at DRC Video Productions.Sam studied under the tutelage of the award winning ethnographic film director Sarah Elder and Emmy-Award winning Producer/Director Elliot Caplan as well as distinguished American writer, photographer, and documentary filmmaker Bruce Jackson as an MFA Candidate in the Department of Media Study at the University at Buffalo.Personal Website - www.samavery.info
