I lead the HydroWIRES Initiative—launched in 2019 as the office's $15M grid integration program—supporting hydropower's growing role as a flexible but dependable resource that helps ensure a resilient power system. Our research includes technology R&D, partnerships, modeling, analysis, and convening by industry and DOE National Labs to understand—and increase—the unique value hydropower provides to the evolving power system. My team works closely with stakeholders spanning the hydropower and broader power system communities, including utility planners, system operators, project developers, hydropower owners, equipment manufacturers, environmental NGOs, and other government agencies. We design our work to balance these diverse perspectives and achieve real-world impact.

Managed an $18M research program on energy storage analysis, modeling, and technical assistance.

Managed evaluation and selection for the $21M Solar Desalination funding opportunity.

Managed a portfolio of systems analysis, technology strategy, and international collaborations focused on the energy-water nexus. Experience in hydropower, desalination, grid reliability, systems integration, energy supply chains, and emerging technologies. Joined DOE as a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow.

Handled energy, environment, and agriculture.

Led four interdisciplinary scientific research projects focused on the physics of proteins that harvest sunlight, store energy, pump electrons, and transmit signals in cells. Advisor was William E. Moerner (2014 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry).
