I have been lucky enough to have done this in both my professional and personal life. Working in a special needs environment for nearly nine years has not only developed my knowledge and skills base immensely, but has also enriched me immeasurably as a person. In particular I have learnt so much about humility, determination and love through working with some incredible students, parents and other professionals.I have excellent inter-personal skills, and become profficient in the use of augmentative communication strategies, such as Makaton and PECs. I am skilled in ICT and social media and confident in developing these skills in others. I am a calm and patient teacher with a creative and logical mind, which enables me to be an excellent problem-solver.My other main passion in life is music; creating, performing and consuming. Many years of writing and performing my own music has enabled it to be my primary outlet for expression and a bridge for engagement. It is my belief that, whether we feel it or not, the rhythms of life and music are inextricably linked and that the understanding of one can help us to understand and deal with the other.Key skills: COMMUNICATION, CREATIVITY, ORGANISATIONAL, PROBLEM-SOLVING, ICT.

As a musician, I have always enjoyed writing, recording and performing my own music. I have played many local gigs and festivals across the South West and have released CDs of my own music.I have featured numerous times on local radio (BBC Bristol, BBC Introducing In The West) and local TV (Made In Bristol). I maintain my own website (www.sameason.co.uk) and social media presence across many platforms.Music has always been a part of my teaching, for example I wrote a 'school anthem' and Christmas song for my most recent workplace which I then helped to record with the staff choir and students with SEN from across the school. I also integrated music therapy-style activities into our daily routines.

Throughout my time at Warmley Park School, I was responsible for planning, differentiating and delivering a curriculum to groups of students with widely varying needs. I was fully responsible for the assesment of their progress, using a multitude of recording and assesment tools. I formed and evaluated IEPs, wrote reports and liased with parents and paraprofessionals daily and during Annual Reviews. During this time, I also line-managed teams of Teaching Assistants. I am trained in a variety of communication strategies and am Makaton certified to level 5. I had a subject responsibility for music across the school and was charged with handling the music budget.
