This work, developed in collaboration with the Body and Chassis Engineering of Piaggio Group, aims at developing a new procedure for the definition of the suspension setup of a motorcycle to evaluate the motorcycle trim, where both suspensions will be considered simultaneously in the study of oscillations. This work focused to join the steps of suspensions and vehicle layout definition, in order to automate the process to evaluate the set-up through knowledge of the geometry of the new vehicle and loads acting on wheels. Starting from the study of the technical choices of the group made over the years, we tried to understand and objectify the criteria to design suspensions.In order to analyze different vehicles, the moment of inertia of a scooter is computed and a correlation it is found between the sprung mass and the wheelbase. The results obtained have been integrated with the Olley's Criteria, which provide an initial indication to define the vertical stiffness of the suspensions to locate the pitch node near the rider's seat. In addition to increase the analysis details during the step of vehicle layout , it was introduced the deformability of bushing connecting the engine to the chassis when calculating the set up.This topic was previously analyzed only in the advanced phases of the project.
