I was able to invest in the lives of kids ranging from 8-18 years old over a period of 11 weeks at The Wilds of North Carolina. In my cabin alone, I was able to personally get to know approximately 80 kids (8 kids a week over 10 weeks). During that time, I was with them 24 hours a day, for 4 days each week.My primary responsibility was to Biblically counsel them on personal matters (family issues, addictions, school problems, self-esteem issues, etc.) as I formed relationships with them throughout the week. I used camp activities (hiking, basketball, lake activities, minigolf) coupled with camp-wide events (chapel services, team games, evening services, picnic events) to break down social barriers and establish meaningful dialogue.
