Perform quality control analysis of in-process silica materials and final products using methods such as surface area, pore volume, XRF analysis, effluent/COD testing, particle sizing, pH and more to ensure production processes and final products can be controlled within specification limits.Maintaining and calibrating analytical instruments including rectifying routine problems to ensure robust/reliable data. Validate analytical results, taking appropriate action to address any anomalies, ensuring business decisions are based on robust data. Construction and use of analytical control charts to perform precision studies to determine analytical capability.Routinely working alone on 12 hour shifts in support of the process team. Solely responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of data used for both monitoring of production processes and the qualification of final product.

Monitor all raw materials, in process samples, products and co-products to ensure the highest levels of quality control are achieved in line with ISO 9001 with the potential of day work depending on job requirements. Analysing product quality before release from site. Monitoring the process conditions and informing the operating teams of potential issues and required process control changes to ensure the FAME/biofuel plants are running as efficient as possible. Performing laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations on bio fuel products. Maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment, for example centrifuges, titrators, pipetting machines and pH meters. GC’s operating to perform all forms of glyceride, SMG and ester testing.

My current quality role at 3M includes the testing of all 3M respiratory protection products for qualification and release purposes. I conduct gas testing including paraffin oil, SO2 and Cyclohexane on our reusable respirator range and determine pass/fail rates accordingly. Any under-performing or failing product is inspected further to determine the cause through further testing and analysing of product data. I am familiar with all EN Standards and specifications our products must conform to. I have calibrated all test equipment within the quality and test laboratories.

Working in a UKAS accredited PSD test laboratory helped build my skills of communication, presentation, proactive thinking and problem solving to a level where my input into test reports and development projects was respected. The tasks undertaken in my role at 3M included working and helping to manage development projects alongside a senior development engineer working on the maintaining of product development and product maintenance, testing samples and writing test reports to meet ISO and BS standards.During my time at 3M PLC I worked towards completing my Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities as well as a Level 3 BTEC Applied Science at Middlesbrough College to gain the knowledge to support my work at 3M; both practical work based NVQ to support my scientific and technical knowledge within the work place and my BTEC to gain knowledge on new subject such as Biochemical and Biochemistry techniques.Performing audits on other members of the team and being audited by UKAS was a big part of working within the PSD laboratory; showing the knowledge I have gained from working within the laboratory is correctly used against the standards to prove product certification and helping problem solving within equipment and method corrections.
