As somebody who has always been fascinated by the ins and outs of how the world works, I came out of sixth form knowing that chemistry was the field of work that I wanted to go into. However upon starting at the University of East Anglia, I soon realised that what I had learned was just scratching the surface of the vast and immense world of chemistry.Although the pandemic somewhat hindered my progress through university, I was still able to grow to appreciate how in depth the subject was, and I slowly got a feel for what areas of chemistry I found more interesting, notably organic and inorganic chemistry.During my third year, I had the opportunity to study at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies based in Yongin, South Korea. This was a brilliant chance to experience a complete change of pace and discover the wonders of a different part of the world, while still learning chemistry at the same time. I quickly realised that the work ethic was much more competitive than what I was used to back home, and this combined with the fact that the classes were not taught in English led to a permanent improvement on my self-organisation and readiness to learn.It was during my final year upon returning to the UK where I realised that my true passion and love for chemistry resided in the laboratory. Being assigned a research project and given full access to the lab, I found myself right at home with the freedom that I was given in how I conducted my experiments, and would often work into the late hours of the day without realising. Working in the lab also allowed me to become accustomed to the normalities and common practices that are to be expected in a lab, to the point where they were second nature.
