I used to be a Detective for Sussex Police and I thought my time would be spent running investigations and actively tackling crime, however, it wasn’t all hunting down leads and drug busts! 80% of my time was spent completing reports and mindless admin sitting behind a desk. It was a bureaucratic environment filled with red tape, it was hard to get anything done and you certainly couldn’t take a risk to achieve a great result (no-one wants the blame if it goes wrong)!I knew after two years in the Police, I never wanted to work in an environment like this and so I joined a start-up that was growing at 10% month-over-month. It's a grow or die environment and after two years here, I couldn't imagine working in an organisation that doesn't embrace an entrepreneurial culture.I see many similarities between my experience in the Police and Corporates…Corporates often subscribe to the old adage, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.Clayton Christensen, author of the Innovator's Dilemma says it a little differently but it is the flip side of the same coin, 'Don't upset the applecart'.At the beginning of 2023, I took lead on the launch of Connectd's Corporate Innovation division and since then, my work life is now focused on bringing the innovations and culture of the start-up world that I have experienced first hand to enterprises globally.If you’d like to explore opportunities, feel free to email me at: sam.g@connectd.co
