My name is Samuel Kleinschuster, and I am a Junior Mechanical Engineering student perusing a concentration in Motorsports at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I currently serve as the Aerodynamics Lead for the 49ers Racing Internal Combustion Formula Racing Team. I would like to extend my gratitude to Mitchel Harney for his guidance and teaching me how to approach challenges like a true aerodynamicist.Since May 2023, I have transformed 49ers Racing's understanding of road vehicle aerodynamics. In my third year with the team, I developed the first-ever wind tunnel-validated aerodynamics package, a pivotal innovation that played a key role in our 2nd place overall finish at the 2024 FSAE International Competition in Michigan. The advances we made in aerodynamics have set the foundation for the next design cycle.As we progress toward the 2025 competition, I have been fortunate to mentor and lead a group of nine mechanical engineering students, helping them grasp the core principles of road vehicle aerodynamics.During the summer of 2024, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with Hendrick Motorsports as a Race Engineer for the 48 Ally Chevrolet Team. Working with some of the top minds in motorsports allowed me to bridge the gap between rigorous academic theory and real-world racing challenges, further expanding my engineering skill set.
