As an Engagement Officer, I had to manage and maintain relationships with our stakeholders to ensure that we worked collaboratively with the shared purpose of improving outcomes for young people.Within this role, it was pivotal that I adjusted my style of communication for the audience or client, as many have different needs. An example of this would be delivering workshops to young people to encourage participation. My communication style in this instance would be different to a meeting with a Headteacher or a Cabinet Member.During this role I had to manage expectations whilst balancing our objectives as a service. It is important to understand everyone's individual needs and where possible meet those needs, whilst at the same time achieving the outcome desired. A skill that I feel is crucial in any customer-facing role is understanding that one-size approach doesn't work for everybody. This role required me to be kept up to date with latest government announcements and policy, both nationally and locally. I also kept up to date with what was going on in my local area with regards to education and employment opportunities. This role also provided me with the opportunity to work with colleagues in other services (including contracted delivery partners) to reduce the number of NEET and Not Known young people. An example of this is in Dover we reduced this figure to a new record-breaking low. This was achieved by working collaboratively to understand each clients needs. Show less
