Profile bio

About Samuel Lazalde

I am a social worker, intervention specialist, and advocate dedicated to transforming the lives of youth and strengthening communities. Growing up in a challenging environment marked by gang violence, I witnessed firsthand the barriers that hold people back and the cycles that perpetuate harm. This experience ultimately shaped my career and personal mission. Driven by a commitment to create positive change, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University Northridge and a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California. These foundations, combined with my life experiences, guide my approach to social work, youth advocacy, and community empowerment.Currently, I serve as Program Director at Neutral Ground, where I lead a team of Restorative Practice Intervention Specialists assigned to partner schools and a team of Community Intervention Specialists focused on Gang Intervention and Violence Interruption. Together, we work to prevent violence, reduce gang involvement, and provide the support network that at-risk youth so often lack. I am also the Head Coach of the Neutral Ground Boxing Club, a unique program that uses boxing as an avenue to engage, motivate, and instill resilience in young people. Through boxing, I help youth build discipline, confidence, and hope, offering an alternative path and a safe space to grow. For me, social work is more than an academic discipline or a job—it’s a personal mission to pay forward the lessons life has taught me. Social work is the act of applying the wisdom gained from life, people, and experiences to uplift those who haven’t had the same opportunities. It’s about meeting people where they are and providing the support, guidance, and resources they need to change their own lives. My role is to stand alongside those who need it most, offering the tools and encouragement to help them break through barriers and build a brighter future. My career is grounded in evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, alongside specialized training in gang violence prevention. I believe deeply in the power of mentorship, restorative practices, and community-building to create lasting change, and I am committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Social work is the act of paying forward; I am here to do just that, driven by a mission to make a difference that lasts.

Listed skills include Community Outreach, Program Development, Research, Youth Development, and 25 others.
