I enjoy working on products using cutting edge technology with motivated coworkers. I have found that strong communication builds the best teams and I bring it to each team that I lead. Most of my work lately has been in Nodejs with Docker for containerization in a Kubernetes Cluster running in AWS. In the past I've worked quite a bit with C# and ASP .NET and I also did a few years of iOS and Android development.I plan to continually move with technology changes, and it's a blast doing it.

Staff Software Engineer, Tech LeadAncestry.Com May 2012 - Mar 2021Lehi, Ut, UsI'm the Tech Lead and scrum master on the Search UI Team. I have a fantastic team that works across multiple legacy C# ASP .NET MVC monolith stacks that we are tech transitioning to micro services. The new stacks are built using Behavior Driven Design in Node and deploy as Fargate ECS Tasks in AWS (previously deployed in a k8s cluster). The primary Search Results UI stack uses isomorphic code to preserve SEO value while also supporting SPA behavior like using AJAX to load the next page of search results and push state to update the browser history.Tech transitioning the monolith stacks has been an awesome opportunity and adventure in architecting the replacement micro service stacks. Nodejs has proven to be excellent for this as it is perfectly suited for Async I/O which front end stacks are all about. The new stacks are parallelized as much as possible and are incredibly performant with a small resource footprint and can scale in and out within seconds. During the tech transition I also designed new restful urls with human readable / SEO friendly url search paths and parameters. For a few years I also managed an offshore Ukrainian team building out a new Search Form Service as part of the company's move to Service Oriented Architecture. I designed this new service to have excellent performance, cacheability, and maintainability with very high code coverage.Other Accomplishments- Presented at the Ancestry Developer Conference on Why, When, & How to Log Errors- Created Error Portal used by the Engineering & Operations for years followed by a Kibana Error Dashboard & later a New Relic Error Dashboard- Wrote detailed documentation on Best Practices for ASGs in AWS including using Lifecycle Hooks, setting alerts when EC2s become unhealthy, and using EC2 Healthchecks- Created the Ancestry User Authentication Node Module used by all Frontend teams- Created the Ancestry Request Node Module also used by all Frontend teams -
