As Union Steward I act as an elected liaison between the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the security staff they employ. In this role my main duty is to represent and support our staff to both the employer and to the union, as well as to ensure our negotiated contract is being properly and fairly enforced.

As Museum Security duties include the protection of the museum's art, staff and patrons along with friendly engagement and assistance to visitors. Within the Security department I have received training and promotion for five separate positions each with increased responsibility and managerial components. The last of these promotions was to Security Event Lieutenant, a position created to work alongside the Museum’s Events Department for the numerous public and private events we host. In addition to my (6+) years of experience working these events in a lesser capacity, this role gave me further experience in managing the staffing and deployment of security personnel, responding accordingly to any complications that arose, and coordinating with Events staff in the assistance and accommodation of any guest and vendor we hosted.
