About Sam Baker

Passionate about innovations that have a positive impact on people and our planet. I am an experienced entrepreneur, investor and proud father. Outside of work you can find me cycling, listening to podcasts, or learning languages (currently Mandarin!).I co-founded and scaled ventures on three continents in topics ranging from software, hardware and consumer goods. I’ve spent years living and working in Europe, the Bay Area, and Latin America, but split most of my time now between California and Germany. In the last decade I have been focused on the mobility industry—I’m interested in the movement of people and products and how it’s constantly being disrupted and improved by rapid changes in technology. I co-founded and grew Wunder Mobility into a leading global tech platform for new mobility operators in over 100 cities on 5 continents.I’m now focused on investing as a Managing Partner in the MobilityFund. We invest in early-stage start-ups that are creating the infrastructure to support an entirely new transportation industry. I also serve as an advisor to mobility start-ups who are interested in fundraising or increasing their sales.

Listed skills include Strategy, Start Ups, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, and 7 others.

Just Business (www.justbusiness.is) is a venture capital firm that invests in for-profit companies that seek to deliver lasting social impact. Building businesses from the ground up has afforded me first-hand experience in business management, including effective leadership, legal matters, financial reporting, and technology implementation. As an early partner, I was a key member in JB's evolution into a leader of socially mindful business. I supported JB's transition from a passive investment fund into an active business incubation group attracting an expansive network of capital and talent. Throughout my tenure JB has increased active portfolio investments from 1 to 10 companies, and increased investors in JB and portfolio companies from 5 to 50+. JB has attracted capital for its main fund and portfolio companies from investors on three continents, and investments span mobile applications, green technology and consumer goods.JB’s recognition as a leader at the intersection of profit and purpose has attracted consulting contracts from Fortune 500 companies, high-growth technology start-ups, and global non-governmental organizations.

Not For Sale (www.notforsalecampaign.org) is a global non-profit that protects people and communities from human trafficking. I was a leader in NFS’s transition from a traditional grass roots non-profit serving immediate social programs into a global leader engaged in enterprise-based solutions for human trafficking.I broadened NFS's funding from a limited model of retail merchandise, individual giving, and foundation grants to include innovative business strategies, namely brand licensing agreements with revenue sharing and equity donation terms. Under my leadership corporate revenue doubled every year, increasing from 5% to 30% of overall NFS revenue.- Short-term financial impact: Managed $1M+ worth of accounts and negotiated multi-year giving commitments ranging from $5k-$100k of unrestricted funding per year (2-10 years). Expanded brand partners from 2 to 50, which led to 200+ co-branded product SKU's in less than two years. Brand partners ranged from startups to multi-national corporations in North America and Europe.- Long-term financial impact: Negotiated $250k of equity donations from for-profit social enterprises with high growth potential. Contracts for revenue sharing are on a trajectory to generate over $5M in the next 10 years. The rapid success of the brand licensing program afforded me the opportunity to contribute to thought-leadership in the non-profit sector and to take on more responsibility within NFS: - Consulted with leading, global non-profits ($100M+ in revenue) on fundraising with equity and licensing models. - Expanded the scope of my leadership within NFS to include restructuring and managing the individual and foundation donor fundraising team ($2M+ worth of accounts). Reorganized a multinational, multigenerational fundraising team by way of talent recruitment, day-to-day mentoring, individual goal setting, and Salesforce cloud-based reporting.
