As Development Team Lead, my main responsibility is to ensure my teams resolve BAU production incidents/defects within the terms of their respective SLAs. I monitor the teams’ queues and backlogs along with past performance, so I can project and predict their ability to complete outstanding work for a release. Where I can see a shortfall, I prioritise crucial deliveries and focus resource. I communicate and negotiate with stakeholders – customers, analysts, product owners, senior management – on scope, delivery, resource, timescales. I act as a mentor to team members, transferring my years of product knowledge. I also give encouragement to instill confidence in them and their work.In a second stream of work, I lead a team working on feature development. This team is Sydney based while my others are in Manila and I split my time between the cities –managing either the Feature or SLA team from a different country depending on where I am. My excellent communication skills mean I overcome this extra layer of obfuscation and know what is happening and what needs to be dealt with.

As third line support for Tribal on the NSW Department of Education’s Learner Management and Business Reform (LMBR) program, I am responsible for providing defect resolutions that are right first time to strict service level agreements. Being in the same time zone as the client, I am the front line, triaging, investigating, fixing and testing bugs across the whole software suite – be that SQL, C#, XAML, MVC, web, Silverlight, configuration, workflow, or REST/web services. I communicate with Subject Matter Experts and other stakeholders to understand requirements and implement the correct resolutions. Working quickly and under pressure I am assiduous to deliver results.

As part of a development team of four in a systems team of over one hundred I helped to deliver the first stage of what at the time was the largest education IT project in the world. Being agile in my attitude, as well as my development methodology, allowed me to help deliver the promised specification on time. One of my contributions to this was designing and implementing functionality that formed one of the key requirements. Development during this role was within the Scrum Agile methodology. As of March 2013 I performed the role of Scrum Master, which I relished. I have ensured that code has been developed and maintained to a high standard across a number of branches and within a complex merging strategy. The product I worked on is highly configurable and customisable via bespoke functionality. With a lack of documentation, a challenge was provided to understand and use this paradigm – one which I accepted and accomplished.Code was produced in C#, with XAML at UI layer and both Oracle 9i and SQL Server 2008 and 2012 databases. In late 2013, I worked closely for three months with a major client in Sydney, Australia, to support our product offering

This role in a small team was varied. Every project was different and therefore my skills were constantly expanding. The company’s focus is automatic identification and data capture (AIDC), employing technologies such as RFID and a unique Ultrasonic identification system. Alongside developing front end and middleware software for these systems I designed and produced bespoke Windows Forms, WPF, Silverlight, MVC and ASP.Net applications for end clients. I developed in Visual Studio 2008 and 2010, in both C#.net and VB.net. I created one system that processes serial transmissions from RFID readers via a ‘hub’ Windows Service, writing multiple transactions to SQL Server. Data is then presented to multiple client front ends written with Silverlight. A similar project I wrote uses a WPF presentation layer. Other technologies applied included MS Blend, Ajax and ASP.net. I developed and was solely responsible for the company’s warehouse management product which integrated with Sage Line 50. I am proficient with Sage’s Data Objects framework and have programmed for handheld barcode scanners.
