As a UC San Diego anesthesiology student, I am passionate about the field of anesthesia and its applications in various surgical procedures, especially in the musculoskeletal system. I have a strong interest in orthopedic rehabilitation, clinical management, and airway management, which are essential skills for an anesthesiologist assistant.I recently completed a four-month internship at UofL Hospital, where I gained valuable experience and exposure to different aspects of anesthesia practice. I assisted the anesthesiologist in intubating patients, placing IVs and arterial lines, administering drugs, and monitoring vital signs during the maintenance phase. I also analyzed patient records before surgery, ensuring the safety of the anesthesia plans. I participated in around 250 surgeries, including a notable first experience in a total knee transplant surgery, where I prepared specific surgical materials, such as shaping ceramic clay for the knee and ankle transplants. I also assisted in managing patient comfort and recovery after surgery.I learned a lot from working with a diverse and talented team of surgeons, nurses, and technicians, and I contributed to the quality and efficiency of the surgical services.
