About Sam Warren

I am a Software Developer with 6 years of industry experience across a variety of complex, public-facing projects for BC and federal ministries. My expertise is in full-stack web development, primarily in front-end JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular and Vue.js, as well as back-end frameworks such as .NET, Node.js/express.js, GraphQL, and Django. I often gravitate towards a leadership role in each engagement, as I am passionate about driving the success of others and mentoring less experienced developers to achieve their full potential. In my free time I enjoy mountain biking in the mountains west of Calgary, skiing in the Alberta rockies, working on personal software projects, playing chess, and trying new restaurants.

At the end of March 2021, I was thrilled to receive a full-time employment offer from Quartech to begin my career as a software engineer ahead of graduation. Having spent the last two-and-a-half years with Quartech working as a co-op student, I feel well integrated into the Quartech family already. From January - May 2021 I worked on the InvasivesBC Mussels iOS app - an iPad app used to record mussel observations in the field, cache them, and later submit them for review. From May 2021 - November 2022, I worked on the InvasivesBC app creating new forms for prospective clients and making improvements to the application to get it ready for launch. (https://github.com/bcgov/invasivesbc)From November 2022 - August 2023, I worked with BC's Climate Action Secretariat (CAS) team maintaining apps to create incentives for BC corporations to reduce their yearly emissions. (https://github.com/bcgov/cas-cif)From August 2023 - March 2024, I worked with the BC Road Safety Initiative's Road Safety BC Digital Forms team to develop a platform to digitize roadside prohibition forms for police officers across BC. This application modernized the use of paper prohibition forms and allowed officers to submit roadside prohibitions digitally - reducing time spent roadside and integrating seamlessly with existing legal software.Since April 2024, I have been working on a multitude of projects for the Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General including Liquor and Cannabis Licensing, Disaster Financial Assistance, Victim Service Delivery, Emergency Support Services and Security Programs Division. Each of these projects provide critical services to individuals, businesses and law enforcement.

    Quartech Jul 2019 - Dec 2019

While I was in classes during the summer, I began working at Quartech again part-time on a government agile project for the Ministry of Agriculture (https://github.com/bcgov/agri-dcbr). The purpose of this project was to provide dog and cat breeders of BC the ability to register as a breeder under upcoming legislation. I worked on this project as a front-end developer using technologies such as Vue.js, Vuetify and Vuex until it was completed in late October 2019.In early November I joined the Health Gateway team on a project for the Ministry of Health - the same one I had built a prototype for back in January (See healthgateway.gov.bc.ca | https://github.com/bcgov/healthgateway). My role on this team was to extract a Drug Information Number Lookup service from the Health Gateway and stand it up as its own project that anyone could run in a Docker container. This taught me basics of .NET Core including how to migrate a .NET Core 2.2 app to version 3.1.Languages and Frameworks: JavaScript, Vuex, Vuetify, Vue.js, .NET Core, Hangfire
