I used Power BI to combine data from a range of data sources like web analytics, internal databases and software APIs, and then to bring this data to life with rich interactive reporting.I built a series of data pipelines, API integrations, and a live data warehouse to improve data quality and help the company make better decisions faster. This work used NodeJS and a range of Azure services like SQL Server, blob storage, and serverless functions.I also overhauled the company’s marketing side, built in WordPress, which had a badly outdated codebase and was very slow as a result. I learned a lot about web performance, implemented A/B tests to make data-driven decisions, improved landing page conversions, and removed 8,000 lines of CSS rules that were no longer used.

Tutoring the capstone paper of my business management degree involved teaching the fundamentals of business analysis and strategy to third and fourth-year students.We taught students how to analyse business and industries in depth using a range of models, how to build this understanding into strategies, and finally how to research and justify their chosen approach. We also honed their presenting ability, helping students to move from a dry academic style to delivering engaging and dynamic presentations that are suited for the corporate world.I learned how to explain complex concepts in a variety of ways, became confident speaking to over 100 students at a time, and learned the nuances that set apart truly great presentations.

Foster Construction is a large New Zealand construction company with prominent projects around the Waikato region. I spent 3 months over summer working to automate their board reporting process – previously an entirely manual task.Working exclusively in Excel and VBA, I learned the importance of tests, error handling, and gained a new appreciation for the value of a SQL database compared to Excel.

This level of variety allowed me to see the financial positions and operations of a broad range of different companies.Projects typically had significant time pressure due to financial reporting deadlines, so this internship required me to learn quickly and work accurately.
