I, Sana Elsayed, am a student at Barnard College, with a major in psychology. My goal is to help serve the community by providing people with the best healthcare support system regardless of social standing. I was an active member of my high school community, being the president of the Muslim Student Association, tutoring advisor of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Studio Art and Badminton club. Additionally, I have had the amazing opportunity of interning at the NYU Biology Lab for a year, where I conducted research on C.Elegans, worms that have a similar genetic code to humans, to advance my understanding of Muscular Dystrophy. Here, I learned about scientists perspective on the incurable disease, causing my passion in epidemiology to start and grow. Furthermore, I spend a couple of days every month volunteering with Islamic Relief where I package food and other necessities and distribute them to the community. Here, I have the honor of connecting with people on a personal level and understanding them better. I care about many social justice issues, such as criminal justice reform, the refugee crisis, food insecurity and public health. I am passionate about serving the underserved and am planning to pursue a medical degree after graduation, to help myself achieve that goal. (Thank you for reading my intro!)
