The assignment entailed an on-ground assessment and local stakeholder engagement to identify specific sites for ecosystem restoration in Pakistan with a focus on maximizing the environmental and economic benefits from improved management of natural capital and the development of green and grey infrastructure:• Develop criteria and indicators to analyze restoration potential for Hill Torrents, Indus floodplain, productive rangelands, and coastal mangroves;• Estimate costs associated with infrastructure development to mobilize public and private investment along with suitable technology packages.• Identify and validate priority landscapes within the zones identified through the BELA analysis for restoration based on their protective capacities (e.g., flood protection, avoidance of dam siltation).• Develop guidance to inform decisions on restoration options; the appropriate implementing entity; financing model; and technical aspects e.g., species, training, and monitoring arrangements.• Outreach and engage stakeholders to develop a national strategy and decision-support tool for mobilizing public and private investment.

The Assignment entails the development of a Decision Support System (DSS) that helps the Sindh Irrigation Department to mitigate floods, droughts, or other climate change-related issues.o Completed mapping of stakeholders and assessed the existing DSS system in Sindh.o Reviewed the existing Sindh Irrigation DSS data components and functionalities.o Identified gaps, needs, assessment approaches, and methodology for developing new DSS.o Led assessments for the water sector including surveys, consultations, interviews, and decision simulations to assess users' data availability, access, and technical capacity.o Initiated the process of redesigning the existing DSS by ensuring the efficacy of flood and drought forecasting and warning and integrating drought monitoring and risk management.o My recommendations and technical inputs on improving the design, content, and analytics of the DSS portal are adopted and support planning and decision-making in the water sector.

My role involves professionally evaluating businesses and providing advice on areas for improvement. This includes conducting independent assessments of enterprises against labor standards and offering consultancy services at the enterprise level to help with remediation and improvement. The work I do has an impact on the performance of the enterprise and its ability to access global markets or sell to international buyers. Better Work is a collaboration between the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to enhance labor standards and competitiveness in the global textile industry. The objective is to improve working conditions and ensure fundamental rights by assisting in compliance with laws, regulations, and core international labor standards. The project fosters the productivity and competitiveness of businesses in Pakistan that are part of the global supply chains. We advocate for scalable and sustainable solutions that promote cooperation among the government, employers, workers, and international buyers.

Pakistan Textile Council (PTC) represents the most significant portion of textile Exporters. PTC represents 26 textile exporters that account for 40% of all textile exports and is the only organization that has mainstreamed the idea of net-zero carbon in the textile sector. Some of my accomplishments are delineated below:o Coordinate and build a business case while working with multiple donors and international buyers on Climate-smart, Health, and Safety (EH&S) procedures and guidelines for members.o Engage, represent and work with stakeholders across the spectrum including industries, US Mission, EU Commission, and the Government for implementing the National Action Plan.o Conceive and build manufacturing upgradation for adoption and extend technical support for EH&S compliance, at various levels of implementation across industries.o Evolved strategies for export growth and to track sustainability to maintain GSP plus status.o Introduced Net-zero scorecards and manuals – to help members achieve Net-zero by 2050.o Engaged stakeholders and partners of green financing to advance cleaner business growth.o Supporting partnership with Better Work to promote textile exports for meeting GSP+ targets and engaging companies like Disney to procure from Pakistan.

The assignment required monitoring, review, and verification of Pakistan’s progress in meeting Ozone Depleting Substance (ODS) and Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) phase-out plan targets.o As the lead consultant for the assignment, I verified and reviewed national legislation, policies, and procedures on imports/exports and their effects on the usage of the two substances.o Reviewed and verified imports/exports data against quotas issued versus quotas used.o Verified the authorized importers/exporters, distributors, licensees, codes, and labeling.o Assessed the understanding of customs authorities on national targets and reviewed system controls, and deterrents against illegal imports of ODS by mislabeling – most of my recommendations post monitoring and evaluation (M&E) were adopted.

As the Project Manager with additional SES responsibilities, besides achieving project targets I ensured compliance of all project activities with the US Government Laws and Regs related to Social & Environmental Standards (SES), National Climate Change Policy, and Gender Inclusion. o Designed environmentally sustainable processes that allowed the Government of Punjab to mobilize over USD 60 million in investment in the agriculture sub-sectors. The interventions through my technical input have brought local products a step closer to exports.o Managed stakeholders in government departments, the private sector, and civil society.o Addressed issues of inclusivity of relevant stakeholders and their needs.o Coordinate with the US Mission Environmental/ Climate Integration Lead for project activities.o Advise Govt. of Pakistan, and the private sector on adaptation and operational elements.o Developed Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) & Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM).o Helped develop tools, data, knowledge, and good practices for adoption.o Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework that also integrated SES.

AMD project activities were targeted at four product value chains covering Citrus, Mangoes, Meat, and High-Value Off-Season vegetables in the agriculture sector. I was responsible to support the implementation of Social and Environmental Standards (SES), and Global Climate Action 2015.o Concluded Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) & Climate Risk Management (CRM).o Developed AMD project-led initiative to Phase-out ODS & HCFCso Undertook gender analyses before awarding grants, and recommended remedial actions.o Developed Environmental Review Checklist (ERC), Environmental Documentation Form (EDF), Environmental Mitigation & Monitoring Plan (EMMP), Corrective Action Plan (CAP), and Record of Compliance (RoC).o Conducted training with potential partners on empowering women, improving gender equity, and inclusion of civil society.o Ensured that stakeholders treat gender as a cross-cutting issue in all its response activities.o Monitoring, Inspection, Milestone Certification & Design Review (MIMDR) for project grant recipients.

Provided climate adaptation & work safeguards on all G2G energy projects e.g., Gomal Zam Dam, Satpara Dam, Repair & Rehabilitation of Jamshoro, Muzaffargarh, and Guddu Thermal Power Plants, Tarbela Power Plant Repair & Maintenance, Mangla Power Plant Rehabilitation, Golen Gol, Kurram Tangi, and Weir Power Plants on Run-of-the-River. o Technically reviewed the environmental assessments and plans and progress reports, provide expert advice, and recommendations per environmental guidelines and procedures of USAID.o Developed Climate Risk Management Matrix (CRMM) for project activities.o Reviewed Environmental Assessments for compliance with the National and Provincial environmental safety standards and help projects qualify for the No Objection Certificate.o Helped projects to achieve gender inclusion and equality standards.

Worked closely with top management at USAID and the Govt. of Pakistan for the implementation of the Environmental Mitigation & Monitoring Plan (EMMP) and gender inclusion framework across project activities covering training, grants, and dairy farm up-gradation, & commercial biogas plant.Provided technical-level support for environmental remediation and mitigation, including system design for project activities such as biogas plants, imported Semen doses handling & distribution, and infrastructure up-gradation of dairy farms as per environmental compliance.Worked as team leader, environmental monitoring, and compliance of field activities for USAID’s approved EMMP and Safety Health & Environmental Management System. Worked as Project Manager for the First Commercial-scale Biogas Project being constructed in Pakistan with the collaboration of USAID & secretary livestock (Govt. of Pakistan). Worked for monitoring of AutoCAD designs for approval of the Biogas Plant and satisfied requirements by OIE. Worked on approval from USAID for the Biogas Project’s Environmental Documentation Form, essential for project initiation. Complied with the field activities against environmental compliance requirements for USAID projects and HSE requirements of national and international safety standards. Provided Health & Safety training to staff on machine guarding, chemical handling, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage, and workplace and fire safety. Provided technical support for environmental remediation and litigation projects, including remediation system design for project activities like biogas plants, semen doses distribution, and up gradation of dairy farms.
