I am a specialist in water policy and management. I graduated in environmental sciences at Wageningen University and Research centre (WUR) in 1999. From 2000 onwards, I conducted PhD-research at the Erasmus centre for Sustainable Management (ESM), Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), earning my PhD-degree in 2007. My research addressed the contribution of economic instruments and evaluation methods to sustainable water management. In my research, I compared the application of generic environmental-economic instruments (such as eco-taxes) with that of decentralised, spatial arrangements, explaining the differences between the arrangements and the discrepancies between theory and practice by means of policy arrangement theory. From 2004 onwards, I worked at several consultancies in The Netherlands and abroad in the field of water policy and governance. I specialize in the (process of) policy formulation and evaluation, particularly regarding issues of water and spatial planning. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience enable me to quickly grasp the essence of policy issues. From 2009 onwards, I gradually shifted my attention from substantive contributions to project management and acquisition. Since 2011 I have added experience of working in South-East Asia for DHI (S) Pte Ltd, mainly regarding acquisition and execution of projects on the management of hydro-meteorological risks (floods, droughts, cyclones, etc.) in South- and Southeast Asia. Besides, I contributed to a number of EIAs from the perspective of fresh water resources and professionalising the DHI ACADEMY for the Asia-Pacific region. I like to connect people, either with similar or opposing interests, to build networks and find optimal joint solutions. I have a holistic view on water management and sustainability issues and the way forward. I enjoy working in an international environment, teaming up with people from widely ranging backgrounds, world views and education.
