This work is part of a large European Project concerned with the development of robotic hands and prostheses capable of human-like sensing and movement.For this project I analyzed and modelled human hand movement during object exploration. This was done by combining the following research fields: Psychology, Computer Science, and Human Movement Science.

Within the Physics of Man group, I worked on the quantification and subsequent understanding of the exploratory procedures performed by people when we haptically (by way of touch) investigate object properties such as shape, weight, roughness, and compliance.This work is part of the EU project "The Hand Embodied"

My doctoral dissertation concerns the effects of visual field limitations on obstacle avoidance behaviour.Using visual field limiting goggles and motion capture techniques, it was investigated how humans avoid collisions with obstacles under such circumstances.these insights may benefit people suffering from eye diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and glaucoma in traversing their environment in a safe and efficient way. Second, it is possible to formulate guidelines for the procurement and design of visual field limiting devices such as Head-Mounted Displays and Night-Vision Goggles.
