If I were to describe my school life so far, I would have to say it has been a long and interesting journey that has taught me much. During my bachelor I was first introduced to research on a laboratory, something I still enjoy very much. During my internship here I had the chance to learn more on cell based assay’s and microbiology, which assisted me greatly when got my first job in the lab. This job at Janssen Biologics also taught me the use of GMP, a very strict form of documentation. Wanting to learn more, I eventually enrolled in the Biomedical Sciences master program at Leiden University. Getting a masters degree has been an interesting experience so far. Although I had already seen a lot during my bachelor and jobs, it has challenged me to think more as a scientist. I felt challenged to think about new conditions for experiments, the implications of results, planning both short and long term, and presenting work in a way to make it easy to understand. More practically, it has also taught me techniques such as ChIP, spectral flow cytometry and immunofluorescent histochemistry. At this moment, my interest lies with tumor immunology such as immune checkpoint inhibitors and the tumor microenvironment. It is my intention to look for a PhD position where I can hopefully expand my knowledge, as well as contribute to new discoveries.
