I’m a Civil Engineer, specialised in civil structures, with around 15 years of professional working experience in The Netherlands. The first 12 years I worked for 2 different commercial engineering firms in varying roles and the last 3 years I worked as a teacher for the Bachelor level of the Civil Engineering course at the University of Applied Sciences. My experience is both in the asset management of existing civil structures, as in the design phase of new civil structures. As a project-/design manager I used to work with a team of varying specialists on the design of (movable)bridges, tunnels, locks, water pumping stations and (movable)weirs. Through these projects I have developed a broad range of knowledge of different types of civil structures and different technical specialties. In my job as a project manager, and more recently as a teacher, I also used and further developed a lot of ‘people skills’. How do you motivate a student or co-worker best and how do you make sure everybody keeps developing and growing their own set of skills and interests? I like training junior co-workers, interns and students and coach them through their own professional career. Now that my wife, daughter and I recently migrated to Australia, I look forward to working on challenging engineering projects myself again. Where I can learn all about new and exciting Australian building techniques, within a team of experienced people.
