Liceo Internacional offers preschool, primary and secundary educaction in Quito in an international setting and based on a value driven approach. I was responsible for coordinating the school´s social projects. This included the guidance of almost one hundred students on completing their community service, the coordination of "education through projects" (both the policy and the executive part), the school´s alliance to the UN Global Compact Ecuador, as well as the school´s sustainable mobility project. Liceo Internacional is een internationaal georiënteerde school dat onderwijs aanbiedt vanaf kleuter tot middelbaar niveau. Ik was verantwoordelijk voor alle sociale cq. maatschappelijke projecten. In dat verband begeleidde ik bijna honderd leerlingen bij het voltooien van hun "community service". Daarnaast stuurde ik het programma projectgeoriënteerd onderwijs aan, zowel beleidsmatig als uitvoerend. Een andere taak was het coördineren van alle activiteiten met betrekking tot het lidmaatschap van het UN Global Compact, alsmede een grootschalig project op het gebied van duurzame mobiliteit.

Amsterdam Area, Netherlands

Being stationed at the fraud department, my principal responsibility was to detect and prove fraud in a range of policies like travel insurance, yates and old-timers. I also worked for the adjacent department in charge of handling travel insurance claims.Op de afdeling Speciale Zaken hield ik me bezig met de aansturing van onderzoeken en schriftelijke afhandeling van reis- en recreatieschades waarbij mogelijk fraude in het spel was. Ook werkte ik als schadecoach bij de afdeling reisschade.

Ecuador

On the one hand, I worked as a freelance researcher in Ecuador, organising seminars and classes at local universities, writing academic and informative articles, as well as working on a new research proposal related to the influence of the Colombian conflict on daily life in the border area. On the other hand, I wrote a consultancy proposal for the provincial government authorities in Carchi (bordering Colombia) about improving political participation and strategical alignment of development plans.

ING is the biggest consumer bank in Holland. I worked as a counsellor/coach, giving practical and financial advice to clients’ relatives.Bij de Postbank/ING werkte ik als adviseur op het gebied van nalatenschappen. Het ging hierbij om financieel en praktisch advies.

Costa Rica

In this period I lived in Costa Rica, being responsible for the well-being of 10 volunteers in both Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The coordination involved a wide array of tasks, like personal introduction to the project and the country, take care of incidents and general well-being, periodic visits to the local partner organisations, monitor and evaluate the projects results.

Costa Rica

The embassy contracted me to produce a working paper on the background and actual situation in relation to HIV/Aids as well as sexual and reproductive rights in Central America, from which future aid assistance could be conducted. I worked very closely with different non-governmental organisations across four countries.Als consultant op de Nederlandse Ambassade te San José, Costa Rica, heb ik gewerkt aan een onderzoek op het gebied van hiv/aids, alsmede seksuele en reproductieve gezondheidsrechten in Midden-Amerika, met als uitkomst een rapport met adviezen en informatie aanzien van het aanwenden van Nederlandse ontwikkelingsmiddelen.

The Hague Area, Netherlands

As an intern I worked three months for the Western Hemisphere Department, Division South America of the Foreign Office of the Dutch government, taking care of diplomatic issues.Als stagiar heb ik me drie maanden ingezet op de afdeling Westelijk Halfrond, sectie Zuid-Amerika, van het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken.

Groningen En Omgeving, Nederland

In order to give Dutch students an opportunity to volunteer abroad in sport related development projects and at the same time bring together different cultures, I decided to (co)found ISOP. I worked two years as director, dedicating myself to professionalise the organisation, approve, improve and manage projects, look for formal cooperation with universities, as well as take care of all legal aspects of international cooperation. I designed an emergency plan, providing procedures and practical information. From October 2004 – February 2005 and December 2007 - August 2008, I spent a period in Costa Rica as a project manager.Stichting Internationale Studenten Ontwikkelingsprojecten (ISOP) is een organisatie die zich inzet voor een betere wereld voor de jeugd in kansarme gemeenschappen in Afrika en Midden-Amerika op basis van de kansen die sport biedt, Ik ben medeoprichter en daarnaast twee jaar voorzitter geweest. Twee maal ben ik projectcoördinator geweest in Costa Rica en Nicaragua. Het was in belangrijke mate vrijwilligerswerk. Ik ben er trots op dat we samenwerkingsverbanden hebben afgesloten met alle sporthogescholen in Nederland, en meer dan honderd projectleden hebben weten uit te zenden, net zoals de stichting heeft bijgedragen aan het creëren van kansen door middel van sport in diverse arme gemeenschappen.

Costa Rica

Due to the worrying situation of Dutch inmates in Panama, the Embassy asked me to conduct research on the legal and penitentiary system of the country, investigate the reality of daily life in jail, with as final result a neat brochure both for the inmates, their family, and the embassy. During this internship, I was able to visit a couple of jails in Panama and Costa Rica.Als stagiair op de Nederlandse Ambassade te San José, Costa Rica was ik verantwoordelijk voor het opstellen van een informatiefolder voor familieleden van Nederlandse staatsburgers die in Panama of Costa Rica een gevangenisstraf uitzaten. De folder bood juridische en praktische informatie, waarnaar ik onderzoek heb gedaan (meerdere gevangenissen bezocht).
