I perform research on innovative nuclear fuels.within both the Dutch nuclear research program as well as European research projects (FP7 / H2020). My roles in these projects are lead scientist and/or project manager.Projects deal with designing innovative in-core irradiation experiments for nuclear fuels with the focus on studying material behaviour, transmutation of minor actinides and the performance of experimental MOX-fuels.Subsequently, the experiments are subjected to extensive post-irradiation material testing and prepared for transports to partner institutes.Irradiations are conducted in the High Flux Reactor, the post-irradiation analyses are mainly done in the Hot Cell Laboratories. Both high level research infrastructures are located in PettenI have experience with other material characterization analyses techniques: a.o. SEM, electron microprobe analysis (EDS/WDS), thermal desorption experiments, LFA, mass spectrometry (TIMS and ICP-MS), gamma spectrometryAdditionally, I am responsible of increasing and securing QA of mass- and gammaspectrometry analyses, mainly performed on samples containing irradiated nuclear fuels (containing actinides and fission-products). Related to this, I am representative of NRG at IAEA safeguards meetings. As scientist, I have published peer-reviewed papers and I am co-author on several others and given oral presentations on major conferences (NuMat, EUROMat) I am representative of NRG at the European research collaboration platform (EERA-JPNM)As project manager, I am involved in and responsible for the project management European research projects up to ~2MEuro. My work primary includes analysis and coordination of testing of ITER tritium breeding materials before and after neutron irradiation, to assess a.o. thermal and mechanical stability of pebble bed assemblies, tritium release from different ceramic materials and tritium permeation through special composite containments.
