Vopak stores oil, gases and chemicals in its terminals worldwide in order to transport these substances over the world. During the summer of 2019, I have worked at the financial department of Vopak besides writing my Master thesis. I had my own project to optimize the intercompany process regarding rechargeable expenses. After writing a process description and implying new golden rules, a colleague took over the role for the process implementation.

Via het detacheringsbureau HighQ heb ik bijna drie maanden gewerkt op de financiële afdeling van Gate Terminal B.V. als zomerproject voordat ik met mijn master kon beginnen. Het bedrijf is gevestigd op de Maasvlakte, in de haven van Rotterdam en opereert door het opslaan van LNG (vloeibaar aardgas) in grote terminals, dat via schepen vanuit voornamelijk Noorwegen en het Midden-Oosten Rotterdam binnenkomt en vanuit hier verspreid wordt over de rest van Europa. Ik was hier verantwoordelijk voor de factuurverwerking en AdHoc taken over de financiële status van het bedrijf. Een leerzame ervaring!

Via AIESEC heb ik de mogelijkheid gekregen voor een avontuur in Egypte. Na het behalen van de bachelor in Bedrijfskunde had ik ruim drie maanden over om me te ontwikkelen en oriënteren in een relevant vakgebied voor de aankomende master in Accounting, Auditing & Control. Het liefst wilde ik dit in het buitenland doen, omdat het andere ervaringen en culturen met zich meebrengt. De uitdaging en het land Egypte spraken me erg aan. Binnen het bedrijf hield ik me bezig met het maken van financiële business analyses voor Egyptenaren die zich permanent wilden vestigen in andere landen. Met name westerse landen stellen strakke eisen om waarde toe te voegen aan de economie. Via de ervaring bij ARDEN heb ik veel inzicht kunnen krijgen in verschillende bedrijven, wat er bij komt kijken om ergens anders te vestigen als bedrijf en wat de voordelen van een Europees paspoort zijn.

During the winter season of 2017/2018 I have worked as ski instructor in Flachau, Austria. I have been skiing since 2002 (7 years old) for one week per year. Therefore, it has always been one of my dreams as a child to become ski instructor one day. I would suggest this experience to ski and snowboard lovers, because it is a perfect way to practice your hobby, to get to know numerous international people, to work in a great atmosphere and to improve your German language skills.

Lely is a producer of agricultural machines in order to optimise the work processes for farmers. One of the company's main machines is the Lely Astronaut; an automatised robot that milks cows independently. After a successful period as parttimer in the Accounts Payable team of Lely, I had the opportunity to switch to the Accounting & Control team of Lely in a full time position. In the new function, I am responsible for managing bank bookings, matching invoices, Accounting Support and other tasks in order to show the financial position of Lely concerning debtors and creditors.

Maassluis

Lely is a company, specialised in creating agricultural machines for farmers. For instance, they design robots to optimise the process of milking cows. As part time member of the Accountants Payable, I was responsible for regristrating and processing incoming invoices. In August, I made the step to the AC-team (Accounting & Control) as full time Junior Account within Lely.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

ServisHero is a start-up, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The company could be compared with apps as Uber, although it is focused on services instead of taxi rides. More specifically, it aims to connect as many customers to serviceproviders as possible by mobile app or website. As Operations Management Intern, I was responsible to optimise the process between serviceproviders and customers. The main goal was to improve the online reviews, what is essential for upcoming start-ups.

As a temporary worker at Young Uitzenden I worked at different events and festivals in the Netherlands. My tasks were all hospitality related, like bar and food operations.

As student job I have worked at 'Nursery Van den Berg'. The activities at the tomato nursery consist of maintaining the plants in good conditions and harvesting tomatoes.

The main activity as a transcriber was typing the voices from a sound clip into a Word-document. The sound clips were about interviews of journalists for newspapers or interviews of students for theses or assignments. This job gave me a boost for my dutch writing skills.

As deliverer I really appreciated the contact with the people in the streets. Making talks with people made the deliver job more pleasant to do, even in the rain ;). Unfortunately the company stopped a few months after I left.
