I am proud to have been elected as the first Hindu and man of Indian descent to serve as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Glasgow Region in May 2021. Since entering Parliament, I have mainly focused on healthcare policy, first as Shadow Health Minister and now as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care since September 2021.Originally from Golders Green, London, I was educated at The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School and studied medicine at Imperial College London, where I graduated in 2006. My early career took me across London, Birmingham, Sunderland, and Glasgow as an Orthopaedic Registrar before transitioning to primary care in 2015.My passion for healthcare advocacy led me to leadership roles such as Chair of the BMA GP Trainees Committee and Deputy Chair of the Royal College of GPs First 5 Group. I am an active member of both the British Medical Association (BMA) and the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO), continuously advocating for better healthcare services.From 2017 to 2021, I had the privilege of serving as Club Doctor for Queen’s Park FC in the Scottish Professional Football League. Alongside my parliamentary duties, I continue to practice medicine as an NHS GP one day a week, ensuring I remain connected to the frontline of healthcare.
