A key component underlying the mandate of the ANN pertains to People Power which demands that services and programs are co-created and respond directly to the comprehensive needs of people through robust meaningful involvement with communities and all relevant stakeholders. To operationalize the human-rights based approach to achieving People Power, the ANN, through participation in the development of the NCD Alliance’s Global Charter on Meaningful Involvement of People Living with NCDs, developed an African Regional Advocacy Agenda of People living with NCDs and subsequently engaged in consultations leading to the development of the WHO Framework on Meaningful Involvement of People Living with NCDs and Mental Health and Neurological conditions. The three aligned Tools represent a powerful collective which must be leveraged by the ANN and Country Alliances to advance the People Power agenda through engagement with governments, African Regional Bodies including WHO AFRO and Africa CDC as well as other stakeholders to domesticate and institutionalize meaningful involvement of communities within the African Region. This Report reviews and analyses the process of development and content of the three Tools and by demonstrating their relevance to global guiding documents on NCDs as well as to the NCD Agendas of the WHO and Africa CDC, sets out a Roadmap comprising five (5) key actions. These actions aim to effectively advance the agenda to harmonize and leverage existing meaningful involvement frameworks and develop a strategy for their implementation as well as follow up of their implementation by relevant stakeholders in the African Region.
