Sandie Luna is a multifaceted leader and cultural steward, bringing her extensive experience as an educator and entrepreneur to her role as Executive Director at ID Studio Theater in the South Bronx. Her focus is on the organization's growth through artistic excellence, community partnerships, education, financial stability, fundraising, and audience engagement.A lecturer at SUNY New Paltz’s Theater Arts department, Sandie specializes in Latin American arts and performance. Despite teaching at a predominantly white institution, she has cultivated a circle of support for her BIPOC students, ensuring they have the resources and community they need to thrive. She enriches their learning experiences with her diverse background and professional insights.Sandie was honored as a 2024 NALAC Leadership Institute Fellow, a program supporting Latinx artists with intensive professional development. She is also a 2023 BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) Award winner, recognizing her proficiency, knowledge, and dedicated art practice.Born in the Dominican Republic, Sandie immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager. She studied sociology and theater at Florida State University, where she developed her multidisciplinary approach to art. Her experiences as an Afro-Latina immigrant inform her collaborative and culturally rich projects.In 2006, Sandie co-founded Nettles Artists Collective, an award-winning NYC-based group run by Latinx immigrants, aimed at bringing global majority voices to the American art scene. She has produced numerous workshops in NYC, collaborating with international companies like Paris-based Pantréâtre and Rotterdam-based Stemwerk Theatre. In 2014, she co-founded Punto Space in Midtown Manhattan, providing vital support to emerging artists during its five-year run.Sandie’s performance resume includes work in TV, radio, commercials, and theater for both English and Spanish audiences. She has performed at the Public Theater, Off-Broadway with LAByrinth Theater Company, and taught in the prison system through the Public’s Theater Mobile Shakespeare Unit. Her multicultural research for major companies like Ford Hispanic Media, GSK, and Citi highlights her diverse professional skills.Currently, Sandie is enrolled in The Next Economy MBA from LIFT Economy, where she engages in a nine-month journey focusing on racially just and environmentally regenerative business design.Sandie lives, works, and dreams in the Bronx, passionately advancing her mission to infuse the arts and her community with diverse, authentic perspectives.
