Quench Management Services is an engineering company providing a wide range of engineering service supplies. We specialize in welding, pipe work, mechanical, civil, electrical and chemical equipment design; we also provide maintenance services in the disciplines mentioned above. Our services also include fabrication and structural service in industrial areas, private and the public sector.We are contracted by Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd to provide maintenance services for the Fuel Oil, LPG and Burners plants at Medupi Power Station in Lephalale.My duties as a Site Manager (16.2 Appointee) in summary are as follows:Supervising and leading all maintenance processes and operations.Tracking expenses and overseeing the budget for services rendered.Ensuring maintenance work is carried out as per the maintenance strategy.Managing outage work.Ensuring that all departmental workers adhere to safety policies and procedures.Assigning repair schedules and evaluating repair cost estimates.Managing the Service Agreement Contract (NEC) with the client.

I worked for Low Pressure Services within the Auxiliary Engineering Department. My duties in summary were as follows:Investigating and providing guidance on the resolution of non-conformances identified during construction.Ensuring that engineering co-ordination of inputs from all other site engineering disciplines during construction and commissioning is properly integrated.Initiating and managing design changes during construction.Providing assurance on the quality of construction works to maintain the integrity of the design.Verifying that commissioning procedures are in line with the design basis and witnessing the commissioning of newly constructed plants.Ensuring that the as-built and commissioned plant is fully aligned with the design baseline.

Medupi is a coal fired power station located in Lephalale - Limpopo. The power station is still under construction. It consists of 6 x 800 MW units with a total capacity of 4800 MW. Medupi is the fourth largest coal fired power station in the world.I am part of the construction team at Medupi under Eskom's Group Capital Division. My responsibilities are:Supervising contractors that have been contracted to execute work for Eskom.Ensuring that contractors adhere to Eskom's quality standards and safety requirements. Facilitating the integration between contractors from different engineering disciplines.Ensuring that contractors achieve target milestone dates without compromising on quality and safety Reviewing schedules submitted by contractors and ensuring that they are aligned with the targets set out by Eskom.Compiling daily, weekly and monthly construction progress reports. Reviewing method statements and risk assessments submitted by the contractor. Reviewing Data Packs submitted by the contractor for quality verification purposes. Identifying slippages on schedules submitted by the contractor and initiating a recovery plan.Conducting pull plan sessions to recover lost time.

My role was to learn the fundamental skills of construction management and to apply the knowledge and skills that I have acquired throughout my studies towards empowering and adding value to the construction department's outputs at Medupi Power Station.I was based in the BOP (Balance of Plant) department under Eskom's Group Capital Division. Our primary mandate as a department was to construct all the auxiliary plants that support the operation of the generating units i.e. water treatment plant, conveyors, ash conditioning, auxiliary cooling etc. My responsibilities were:Studying the OHS Act and having an understanding of how it is applied on site.Attending safety meetings and understanding the importance of safety in the workplace.Compiling risk assessments to identify hazards and risks associated with work done on site.Studying maintenance manuals for different equipment on site and ensuring that the maintenance / preservation is done as per the recommendations from the OEM.Attending site inspections to ensure that construction is done as per the design. Interpreting construction drawings such as isometric drawings, P&ID's and general arrangements for quality verification purposes.

My responsibility was to successfully complete the training program which was assigned to me by Eskom and to fulfill the Work Integrated Learning requirements which have been stipulated by Vaal University of Technology in order for me to successfully complete my National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. I was allocated a competent mentor who assisted me with successfully completing my training program and the Work Integrated Learning program.

Benteler Automotive AG is a holding company in a German family ownership. The group companies operate worldwide in the fields of automotive technology, steel, tube production and engineering. We produced motor vehicle parts for well known car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Ford, Toyota, BMW, Nissan, Landrover etc. I was part of the Technical Department. My responsibilities were:Compiling process control documents.Developing process flow sheets and SOP's (Standard Operating Procedure).Investigating the root cause of failures and defective parts.Compiling rework procedures for defective parts.Updating time studies and process flow routes.Interpreting technical drawings for quality verification purposes.
