Autoinvest.ca started out as a public Google sheet to calculate the all-in costs of the newly-minted Canadian robo-advisors, so that people navigating between the different companies could fairly compare the cost of portfolio management that was online, at least partially automatic, and with no or very low account minimums.In 2016 the Google sheet was retired, and autoinvest.ca was built with added points of comparison and a calculator that users didn't have to politely take turns with.

I have returned to solo practice as Sandi Martin Financial Planning in 2023, and work with regular Canadians across the country to answer questions about money. Sometimes the questions are tightly focused on one particular issue, like: "Should I take the lifetime pension or the lump sum?" or "What am I invested in?" or "Should I contribute to an RRSP or a TFSA?" Sometimes the questions are as broad as: "Can we retire?" or "We make good money, so where does it all go?" or even "Am I doing okay?"Our work together can be as simple as a series of conversations and emails, or as complex as multi-step financial planning reports, spreadsheets, and checklists. It all depends on the kind of questions you're asking.

I worked with core personal and small business clients to identify their actual needs and build lasting and practical client relationships, despite the constant pressure to concentrate exclusively on product sales.A typical banking week involves 25 sales calls a day, two team meetings, three sales progress reports, and multiple appointments to service personal, business, and estate accounts, sell mutual funds and credit cards, open loans and lines of credit, and build mortgage applications, while still finding time to discuss low-cost investing, debt reduction, and smart, meaningful spending with clients (and defend it as time well spent to management).
