Magnesium alloys are known to show great potential in the automotive industry owing to the lightweight characteristics of magnesium. Despite such great light weight properties magnesium is a preferred metal in the automotive industry, due to cracking observed during hot rolling to forms sheets out of Magnesium owing to its hexagonal crystal structure. Addition of rare earth metals [e.g. Cerium (Ce)] as used in this study helps to reduce the brittleness making it easier to form magnesium into sheets. This study involved understanding the reason behind this improvement at the microscopic level by advanced characterization techniques and using this knowledge in the further development of more efficient magnesium alloys systems.Key Technologies : Metallographic Equipment, Optical Microscope, X - Ray Texture Goniometer, SEM and EBSD, ImageJ, Origin Pro 8.0, Matlab
