- Primary responsibility as a lifeguard is preventing drownings and/or other injuries from occurring - Working in both small and large groups during calm and high stress situations - Assisting patrons when in distress or unwanted situations by attentive scanning and supervision of the pool- Teaching and evaluating candidates of all ages and levels water skills by sharing knowledge - Maintaining a fun and safe space for learning to occur

- Managing and developing a team of part time lifeguards and instructors- Assisting and supporting instructors with lessons to ensure quality standards of Lifeguard governing bodies are being met- Organizing and executing staff training, orientations, interviews, scheduling, daily shift coverage and other administrative duties as required- Providing answers and solutions to patron’s questions and/ or concerns in an efficient and courteous manner - Maintaining a fun and safe space for positive experiences and new opportunities

- Promote membership and program sales and services in a positive and professional manner- Provide exemplary customer service to all members, guests, and participants in all program areas - Engage in phone calls and member retention calls - Support in program areas including aquatics, fitness and child, family, youth programming - Assist members and guests with fitness floor related questions including machine use, equipment locations and basic movement and exercise inquiries - Diffuse conflict and stressful situations using provided YMCA training - Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices- Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA policies and ensuring they are maintained among all members and staff

Training to fulfill numerous duties such as; - Supporting supervisory team in managing a team of auxiliary lifeguards and instructors to maintain a safe environment for all- Assisting instructors with lessons to ensure quality standards of the City of Surrey and Lifeguard governing bodies are being met- Providing answers and solutions to patron’s questions and/ or concerns in an efficient and courteous manner - Assisting with staff training, orientations, scheduling, daily shift coverage and other administrative duties as required- Completing pool tests and other maintenance duties to ensure a clean and safe facility in accordance with the B.C. Health Act
