As a Chemical Decommissioning Officer, I was working for the Health and Safety Services of Loughborough University as part of a selected team involved in the safe decommissioning of the former chemistry department. I was responsible for the development of safe sustainable systems to safely dispose of chemicals, equipment and hazardous materials to secure a safe decommissioning process. Furthermore, this job involved planning and carrying out the day to day decommissioning activities, to manage and control the safe disposal of hazardous materials, analyse data to determine unknown materials and to complete risk assessments, COSSH forms and SOP’s in accordance with relevant regulations.
