About Sandra Deeb
I am a numerical modeler who recently completed an MS at URI in Ocean Engineering with an interest in ocean renewable energies. My research focused on both experimental and numerical hydrodynamics. Using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), I measured turbulence and flow properties in a wave-current flume and I also used PIV to capture the wake of a circular cylinder treated with an antifouling paint compared with an untreated cylinder. On the numerical side, I investigated the representation of turbulence in the popular Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics model DualSPHysics in the flow past a 2-D cylinder. During the first year of my Masters, I was a graduate teaching assistant for various courses including introductory hydrodynamic concepts, Python coding, and coastal measurements and applications. Prior, I graduated summa cum laude from URI with a B.S. in ocean engineering, a B.A. in French, and a minor in mathematics. My previous interning experiences include a part-time one-semester internship at Navatek Ltd., a 640-hour internship at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport, and a 6-month full-time internship at France Energies Marines. My programming skills are in MATLAB and Python. Additionally, I am internationally flexible; I am a native English and Arabic speaker, I have full professional fluency in French, and I am currently at an advanced level in Spanish.

I am a numerical modeler for the International Projects Group. I perform blowout, stochastic, and deterministic modeling of potential oil/contaminant spill events, perform post-processing on the results to identify key impactful events and prepare technical reports in English and occasionally Spanish of the modeling projects for the clients. I also assist in business development and software support of our in-house models for international (English-, Spanish-, and French-speaking) clients. Additionally, I build post-processing scripts using Python and Matlab to streamline data analyses.
