I have worked at West College Scotland (Formally James Watt College) for over 30 years, as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and now Student Wellbeing Manager. My new role enables me to work across all of our 4 campuses face to face and online whilst managing a team of 10 Wellbeing Matters staff.I felt very privileged to be in a position of teaching students for such a long time and gained so much more than I gave.

CurrentI have a brilliant job, leading and line-managing the Wellbeing Matters Team to hold our students, staff and wider community at the heart of everything we do. I thoroughly enjoy helping individuals when teaching Mindfulness to build their resilience, encourage positivity and achieve calmness in mind, body and emotions. My mission is to facilitate the support required to encourage our students and staff to thrive. I enjoy hands-on operational management whilst working with a great team of Wellbeing advisors, Counsellors and an Active Campus Co-Ordinator. I believe in West College Scotland's Wellbeing Strategy R.I.S.E. follow it's 4 cornerstones of care to encourage all students and staff be :-READY to learn, study and work in a comfortable environment while developing personal resilience for college and beyond.IN TOUCH with their own health and wellbeing, recognising the necessity of seeking help when confronting challenges, and encouraging others to do the same.SUPPORTED to feel safe, secure and strong enough to embrace college and working life and enjoy their successes.EMPOWERED and energised to engage in excellent education and career opportunities while maintaining positive mental health.

Senior Lecturer
I started as a Beauty Therapy Lecturer and progressed within a two year period to Senior Lecturer. I worked on the first Beauty therapy HND to forward for validation which the college achieved. I built up Complementary Therapies from NC to HND as course leader and was on the Course design panel at SQA.I was an External Verifier for 15 years in Complementary, Therapy and Beauty Therapy and at SQA I developed course materials, unit specifications and credit rated externally devised materials with SCQF levelling. The most rewarding aspect of teaching is for me seeing the positive progression of the individual growing in confidence, knowledge and ability.
