I am a researcher, retired medical doctor, artist, and writer.My life's journey has been diverse, and has very much influenced where I am today. After completing college, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry to bring a medical product to market. I then ventured to Boston where I worked in an academic environment doing basic science research. Ultimately, at age 26, I choose to pursue a career in medicine. I have practiced as an obstetrician and gynecologist in several different clinical settings.At age 38, while still practicing medicine, I was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer. I went through a rigorous treatment regimen, involving several surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. I am grateful to be cancer free at this time.Following treatment, I was not initially ready to give up the practice of medicine and I returned to work as a full time obstetrician and gynecologist in a large group setting. Over the next seven years I found it increasingly difficult to keep up with the demands of my profession, and its many changes.As I began to face the realization that I needed to step back from medicine, I found myself thinking about doing something with my creative side. I design and hand make jewelry with a variety of different media. I sell my piece on line through my Etsy shop, as well as at shows and parties.I do miss patient care and serving as a patient advocate. In addition, it has been hard to give up the mental stimulation of medicine. Drawing upon my education, research, and work experiences; as well as my time taking care of patients, as a patient myself, and as a support person for a family member with a serious medical condition, I have begun to research and write a book about health care in the US. I am hopeful my book, or books, will be published one day. I have a lot to say.
