Lead Indigenous Research Engagement And Knowledge Exchange
CurrentReporting to the Director, Indigenous Research, I am responsible for supporting Indigenous health initiatives within Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) including strategic planning, policy, education, and research activities. I work closely with the Indigenous Health (IH) team and other VCH leaders on Indigenous health policies, and offer guidance both internally and externally on Indigenous research practices and policies to ensure they are done in partnership and in alignment with Indigenous community and their needs and ethics. I am working with the Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) team to develop research-specific training and tools to integrate into the current ICS training. My work is guided by the Indigenous communities VCH serves, as well as my own values and my commitment to truth, reconciliation, decolonization, and Indigenization.
Indigenous Community Liaison
As part of UBC Okanagan's commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions calls to action and to UNDRIP, I work in the Office of Research Services under the VP Research and Innovation as the Indigenous Community Liaison. My role is to assist in building culturally safe, meaningful, and reciprocal research relationships between UBCO researchers and Indigenous communities. I provide support for the needs and processes of Indigenous communities while working with UBCO researchers, and provide guidance to faculty on ethical and appropriate Indigenous engagement. In partnership with Indigenous community, I work to identify collaborative, community-led research opportunities, while working towards the broader goal of decolonizing and Indigenizing research and researcher-community relationships.

- Work with prospective students on the admissions process to UBC and offer support as needed. - Project development and implementation: Worked with the Interior Region Aboriginal Child and Youth Mental Health Manager and four Aboriginal Wellness Coordinators to implement the "Aboriginal Child and Youth Mental Health Plan" in the Okanagan.- Conducted meetings and presentations with Aboriginal organizations and the Ministry for Children and Family Development (MCFD) Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) teams to gather information for the Aboriginal CYMH Plan and its strategies.- Responsible for liaising with the MCFD CYMH teams and Aboriginal organizations and their front line workers in the Okanagan to improve working relationships and partnerships between them.- Worked to familiarize the Aboriginal front line workers, MCFD CYMH teams, and Aboriginal Elders and youth in the Okanagan with the Aboriginal CYMH plan and to improve it with their input.
