About Sandra Nelson

Having worked in different mental health care settings including Acute, Forensic, Rehabilitation, PICU, Eating disorder unit and currently managing EUPD (Emotional Unstable Personality Disorder) , has helped me developed strong interpersonal and effective communication skills as well as a heart to learn and adapt very quickly. I know care work can be physically strenuous and mentally challenging, however, with my experience I have learnt to remain calm under pressure. My experience with different role in healthcare has shown me new ways of life and given me insight of how life can easily change. It has made me eager to pursue this career as I feel I could give so much more and contribute to the welfare of others.

Step Care is an exciting new service being developed by the HOPE Provider Collaborative. The Step Care team focuses on adults with eating disorders who meet the threshold for inpatient care. In some cases, admission will be prevented and in others, people will be stepped down to the virtual Hospital at Home programme following a short inpatient admission. The model is underpinned by CBT-E and is fully integrated with community teams and inpatient services to offer a seamless service. Step Care maximizes the use of new technology, provides care close to home, reduces admission, length of stay, waiting times and provides earlier discharge from inpatient care.
