My work involves preparing samples for sequencing on Illumina HiSeq, MiSeq and NextSeq Sequencers, using Illumina Nextera XT sample preparation kits both manually and using automated liquid handling procedures. As well as Illumina technologies I have also had experience using the Oxford Nanopore MinION. I was involved in the validation and launch of the Public Health England Next Generation Sequencing service, which provides sequencing for epidemiological and microbial WGS for a variety of customers. This included evaluating and developing best practices, and testing and improving each procedure, as well as reporting the outcomes. As such my role has required me to train staff and students of varying background and experience. I am experienced in writing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adherence to quality practices, specifically ISO15189 and GMP.I am proficient in writing, testing and optimising programs on liquid handling robots to carry out procedures with the laboratory.
