I am a translational research scientist with expertise in the field of hepatitis B (HBV). I lead a team at the Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology and have an adjunct lecturer at King's College London. My research is focused on experimental-based studies aimed at identifying host-directed therapies chronic Hepatitis B (CHB) and Liver cancer. The work involves:1) The identification of host proteins implicated in HBV infection and HBV-associated liver cancer and the evaluation of their potential as therapeutic targets.2) The development of physiologically relevant models of HBV and liver cancer using human derived 3D spheroids/organoids hepatic models, and ex-vivo human immunocompetent models with the Precision Cut Tissue Slices.3) Immunosurveillamce of therapeutic strategies for CHB alongside national and international clinical trials to inform on mode of action and define biomarkers of response.Lab experience:Primary and long-term cell Culture including hepatoma cell lines and PBMCs. ELISPOT, ELISA, Flow Cytometry (BD fortessa). End-point and quantitative PCR including digital droplets PCR. Cell imaging, Western-Blot. Strong experience in working with category 2 and 3 biological agents.Strong health and Safety practices (member of the health and safety committee, genetically modified organisms safety officer).I lead a team of researchers and students including Post graduate.
