My key focus is to develop and secure large competitively awarded collaborative research & development (CRD) funding to deliver key elements of CPI’s strategy, while helping to continually expand and improve CPI’s capabilities and expertise in core and emerging technologies and markets. CPI acts as a catalyst to help companies translate bright ideas and research into the marketplace and CRD funding is vital to this mission.

My focus is on facilitating and developing collaborative R&D projects involving start-ups, SMEs, academia and other stakeholders. My portfolio ranges from small enabling projects to large multi-national Horizon Europe consortia.At CPI we empower and support companies to safely cross the 'valley of death' between science-led idea and commercialisation, translating bright ideas into the marketplace. My role is to identify, develop and secure collaborative research & development opportunities and funding for some of these great ideas. With a focus on digital opportunities and beyond, I am working with firms from across the spectrum including healthy ageing, medical technologies, sustainability, electronics, net zero and other priority areas for a better future for all.

I was the Programme Manager for the ERDF-funded business support programme 'Advanced Services Growth: Developing Innovative Strategies for Improved Growth in SMEs (ASG1)' in Greater Birmingham and Solihull, working with regional manufacturing and technology innovating SMEs to broaden their business model and generate new revenue streams. We used Servitization as a framework to support SMEs in thinking more customer-centric, looking beyond the product and developing collaborative outcomes rather than focussing on product sales alone.As part of my role I worked with 75 SMEs who were looking at complementing their products with services - through workshops, 1:1 sessions and industry round tables. My responsibilities included:• Management and delivery of workshops, events and 1:1 support• Project and programme management• Identification of SME beneficiaries and business development/recruitment• Content development, feedback and iterative programme improvements• Online transformation lead during COVID• Lead on development and delivery of an industry round table series• Marketing, including photography, print and commission/management of videos

GiveVision develops wearable electronic low vision aids (Class I medical devices). As their Chief Scientific Officer, my role included the following key responsibilities:- R&D and academic science lead. Includes light safety, software sight enhancement, image quality optimization, technological benchmarking, literature reviews, academic collaborations.- User-Centred Design and Human Factors/Ergonomics. Volunteer studies to inform product design at every step, including requirements gathering and definition through field studies.- Regulatory. Leading CE registration of Class I medical device (including Technical File creation and Clinical Evaluation Report). Includes QMS to ISO 13485, Risk Management to ISO 149671, Usability Engineering to BS EN 62366 and Software Development to BS EN 62304.- Clinical Evidence lead. Design and management of NIHR portfolio clinical device study (with Moorfields Eye Hospital London), prepare and manage HRA/IRAS approvals (ethics for clinical research), development of clinical evaluation network through CPMS (40 expressions of interest across NHS).- Project management. PM for InnovateUK funded project (monitoring score 5/5, on track), coordinating activities between three partners and several sub-contractors, quarterly reporting, financial forecasting and budget management, contingency planning. - Bid writing. Co-author and sole author for several successful bids for public funding/grants (InnovateUK, Wellcome Trust) supporting R&D and collaboration.- Dissemination. White papers, technical reports, progress reports, academic- and public dissemination including conference presentations, invited talks and an article in VisionNow.- Procurement, including sales negotiation.- Photography, graphics and design. Including marketing material (packaging, leaflets, folders and presentation), user information (manuals, quick start guides) and peripherals.- Sales. Research Fellow in Visual Analytics and Decision Making on cross-institutional, international European Project SPEEDD. My role included the following key responsibilities: - Lead on visually guided decision making (Big Data). Lead on research into visual information sampling to inform human decision making using eye tracking. Group contributions: decision modelling, user interface design and evaluation. Work included lab set-up and procurement, experimental design and execution, project management, reporting. Output: 4 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 4 conference contributions, all deliverables on track.- Lead on Biomechanics. Side-line, parallel project due to match between personal and lab interests. Investigation of neuro-muscular control during manual tasks: experimental design and execution, lab setup and instrumentation. Output: 3 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 2 conference contributions.- Student supervision. Supervision and lab tutorials at BSc, MSc and PhD level, nomination for student awards.- CPD. Project management (Prince II / Agile); MEDICI entrepreneurial training (UoB flagship course) and Journal article writing (Scriptoria).- Postgraduate Representative for my Department (Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering) on PERCAT committee.

Successful completion of 6-month project funded by the Eranda Foundation. Development of an intelligent, feedback-based computer training application using 3D animations developing perceptual clinical skills: www.lamenesstrainer.com. - Technical- and team lead. Secured £10,000 funding for developing clinical gait evaluation skills through 3D animations using a perceptual learning paradigm. Technical implementation, project management between clinical and software partners, budgeting and reporting. Delivery on time exceeding target outcomes, zero issues raised. Outcome now used in many veterinary schools around the world by leading experts in the domain.- Dissemination. Presentation to Camilla Duchess of Cornwall with press coverage. Winner of the President’s Prize for the ‘Best Theatre Presentation’ at 2015 BSAS conference. Demonstration at RVC Open Day to more than 100 visitors. One paper published, more in prep.- Impact. Used today in different veterinary institutions around the world for teaching. >500 Facebook likes. Measurable improvement in ability to correctly recognise and classify gait asymmetry (paper in prep).

Data Scientist. Extraction, classification and computational conversion of data from a clinical database in order to assist research into feline chronic kidney disease (CKD).Impact. Project team ultimately created a model with industry partner enabling the development of more effective treatment options.
