Sandra Stevens is a respected businessperson/lawyer and principled senior leader with a history of meeting objectives and creating value in multiple challenging situations based on an environment of integrity, inclusion, trust, respectful listening and collaboration. As Vice President, Operations Legal, at Cenovus Energy, with over 30 years experience in the energy and legal business, Sandra was a senior leadership team member, recognized key player and an integrated partner with both the business units and the C-suite in the company’s strategic corporate planning and most critical major initiatives and transactions. In addition, her very broad, diverse and complex portfolio, with a team of over 40 lawyers, paralegals and business personnel, had accountability for the company’s operations and shared services, including A & D, partnerships and joint ventures, regulatory and environmental, stakeholder relations, marketing, transportation, downstream and refining, health and safety, government relations, technology development, governance and financial matters, disputes, supply chain management, and, importantly, all conventional and oil sands/unconventional operations. A long career with Cenovus and its EnCana and PanCanadian predecessors additionally provided Sandra with considerable depth of experience, competence, understanding and oversight in change management, transformation, reorganization, succession planning, development of strong cohesive teams, and insight on the importance of culture.Prior to Cenovus and its predecessors, Sandra practiced energy law with the law firm of Burnet, Duckworth and Palmer. In an earlier career, she was an advisor to a french federal cabinet minister. Sandra graduated from L’Universite d’Ottawa (bilingual program in Economics and Political Science) and Queen’s Law School and has attained the ICD.D designation as well as completing many ICD short courses. She is an avid outdoors person and adventure traveller.
