My passion for nature, flowers, bold colors and design began at a very young age when I often spent weekends gardening with my mother at our home in Mexico. Through my studies and travels throughout Europe and Asia, I discovered exotic flowers, plants, food and architecture. As I incorporated these elements into my designs, I began to define my voice as a designer and our signature style was born. Intent on sharing this passion, I moved to New York City and opened Ovando in 2003. Today after sizable expansion, we have four locations in the NY area including a design studio, two Manhattan-based luxury boutiques, and a fabrication & production studio for our event production division.I'm often asked why design and production?There is nothing like designing and re-creating a space for a large-scale event. To see how the space comes together and how it’s transformed when we utilize different design elements such fabrics, lighting, props and decor custom lighting, is truly amazing. Flowers are one of our favorite elements to use when re-creating a space because they breathe life into any room. They can be the statement, the star of the room or they can be added strategically to highlight and finish the space. When incorporating any design element, whether its flowers, lighting or custom furniture, we like to visualize what the final space will look like from the beginning.
