Youth Advocate/Prn
CurrentAs a youth advocate our role is to help youth aged 15 to 22 navigate social services, offer peer support and self reliant programming. As a youth advocate you are trained to hold boundaries, first aid, meal prep, de-escalate and provide basic resources and navigation to food, shower and laundry for our onsite shelter. My work as a youth advocate, I learned ways to work with folks dealing with mental health or drug use addiction. I am no expert but I am confident in my role as a youth advocate to learn and re-learn healthier ways to grow but also share my training with the youth I get the opportunity to meet and help.

Undergraduate Research Assistant
As an Undergraduate reseach assitant I gained skills to apply my background in writing and apply it to the knowledge in the Humanities Department at the University of Utah. This entailed, reflective story-telling, the sharing of communty spaces, the journey of my own writing but also getting to know other peoples writing journeys. The research I participated was in writing ecologies and writing transfers betwwen 2 year and 4 year colleges. I was in a group where we interviewed interested folks who were transfer students and then transcribe this data to later compile our findings. These findings led our mentor Christie T. to spotlight some of her peers, students, and colleagues journey of what writing looked like and didn't look like for some. This experience led our group to share our findings and also share our own narratives with some national conferences like Conference on College Composition and Communication in 2016 and 2017.
Resident Manager
Resident Manager at the temporary shelters in Salt Lake City. This position included workign with individuals with light case management, first aid, de-escalation, meal preperation, shelter maintenence and COVID-19 protocols to keep shelter safe and clean.

As one of of the shelter coordinator, I was part of the management team for our Youth Resource Shelter. My main priorities was working and managing the grave youth advocates, maintain accurate data and tracking from daily referrals and daily resources, train new youth advocates, engage in weekly meetings and provide compassionate care for youth with daily motvation, strong boundaries and clear expectations.
Youth Advoate
Shelter Advocate
With YWCA, I was shelter advocate which includes intake assesments for women and men experiencing domestic violence and in need of new placement. I also provided basic care resources for our housed clients at YWCA. Majority of the work is ensuring safety and security for women or men in this facility and provide trauma informed care for all individuals who recently experiences domestic violence.
Youth Coordinator
I was a writing assistant before I transitioned to Youth Coordinator. I was recomended by my English professor about this opening at a local writing center where she was director. Writing used to be a weakness of mine but as I took on this challenge and co-facilitated writing groups, writing workshops--writing became more of an extension for my knowledge and also building community awareness and leadership. After a few months in as a special projects coordinator, writing assistant and then youth coordinator. I changed my career to merge Social work and writing which is what led me to apply for Writing and Rhetoric degree at the University of Utah. Before I attended the University of utah, as a youth coordinator I participated in these places as a facilitator at: ✦Primary Children's hospital✦Bud Bailey Apartments✦West high school✦Metro Jail✦Oxbow Jail✦Salt Lake Public Library✦Utah Arts festival✦Salt Lake Community College ✦national writing conferences.
