Special Education

Designed, developed and facilitated the first online course in autism taught as part of the Autism Education Collaborative, an initiative of the Michigan Department of Education - Office of Special Education Services to increase the number of qualified teachers of students with autism spectrum disorder. The course - Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders -- provides a broad overview of the topic and uses an instructor-as-learning-facilitator design.

Develop, expand and refine the leadership capacity of the MI SEAC members to use dialogue skills to explore and understand issues from multiple perspectives and to support its Executive Committee in the use, understanding and application of collaborative process tools.Michigan's Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandated state advisory panel to the State Board of Education and the Michigan Department of Education. The 33 members of the SEAC represent a diverse group of stakeholders (administrators, providers, advocates, and consumers) concerned with the education of all children, including students with disabilities.

Prior to founding Laham Learning Associates, Sandi worked as a consultant for Macomb Intermediate School District. Her background included work with students, teachers and parents on individual behavioral and instructional issues, work with teachers and administrators on organizational, curricular and instructional issues, development of curricula for students with special needs, and design of training for adult learners. Since 1988, she has devoted her energy to the resolution of educational issues using consensus planning and collaborative change methods.
