That is how I have succeeded in my professional life, serving our country overseas as a Senior Foreign Service Officer, as a high-level official at the WA State Department of Natural Resources, and as a vice president at The Evergreen State College.Some highlights of that experience include:Advocating for American economic, security and human rights interests around the world in the Foreign Service. Working for presidents from Reagan to Obama, I led U.S. Embassy operations that expanded international education, protected local Americans, opened doors for American businesses to sell goods abroad, built partnerships to fight common enemies and promoted peace and security for all. I left federal service with the equivalent rank of a two-star general.Helping to lead the Washington State Department of Natural Resources in sustainably managing forests, wildfire fighting and improving the health of Puget Sound. As the agency’s communications director and a senior advisor, it was my privilege to work to conserve and protect Washington’s stunning natural resources.Raising awareness of the huge positive impact of The Evergreen State College in our region, including returning $4.5 dollars in economic benefit for every state dollar spent, as vice president for college relations.
