I am curious about novel histone modifications and their impact on chromatin structure and its function. Also, I wonder how the epigenome integrates external signals (e.g. from different diets) and if the epigenome plays a crucial role in the progression of metabolic diseases.Main experiments:• ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and ATAC-seq on tissue samples from diseased mice• Biochemical assays, protein expression and purification, chromatin assembly, in vitro transcriptionA highly collaborative project required:• Efficient presentation and communication skills• Leaving my comfort zone• Thorough project managementOn the side:• Supervision of students (summer school student and master thesis student)• Course instructor for the Helmholtz Summer School on Chromatin Biology• Co-organizer of social hours for our Helmholtz epigenetics community

Deciphering the interplay between metabolism and the epigenome at the lab of Robert Schneider.
  • Universitätsklinikum Freiburg
    Student Researcher
    Universitätsklinikum Freiburg Jul 2016 - Aug 2017

During my master's thesis, I studied the repression of HIV co-receptors by novel TALE-based epigenome modifiers in the lab of Claudio Mussolino at the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Gene Therapy. I enjoyed being exposed to clinical needs and challenges as well as being involved in such a pioneering project. I supervised a Bachelor student who joined the project and was glad to share my experiences.
