As a Staff attorney with the Family Unity Project and the Local Funding Initiatives, I represented detained and non-detained clients before the Immigration Court, US Citizenship & Immigration Services, and state courts. I managed a varied caseload involving families previously separated by the federal government, clients with criminal records, and unaccompanied migration youth. I screened and analyzed cases for potential relief to develop a legal strategy, including accounting for criminal issues. I filed applications and petitions for relief with related immigration government agencies and state courts for collateral relief. I also prepared and submitted supporting evidence into the record and prepared and conducted direct and redirect examinations. I prepared clients for hearings including practicing direct and cross examinations. I negotiated with opposing counsel and made closing arguments during merits hearings. I entered objections into the record. I attended asylum interviews with clients to ensure they received a non-adversarial interview while reviewing their asylum applications with asylum officers. On a regular basis, I reviewed case questions and upcoming immigration issues with my supervisor and colleagues in both of the adult-based and children-based teams. Show less

I assisted my supervising attorney with family cases where parents and children were previously separated by the federal government under the 2018 Zero Tolerance Policy. I drafted applications for relief and prepared filings an asylum case for the merits hearing before the Immigration Court.

I also conducted my own edits on my own assignments for other articles/comments. I frequently collaborated with other editors on how to best cite certain sources. A fellow intern and I created a Journey Series troop that focused on cultural enhancement activities with girls ages 4-7.
